Trump stated in a post on Truth Social that these outlets continuously publish fiction and lies regarding his administration, though he did not cite specific reports to support the claim.

The president later characterized the directive as a simple ban, acknowledging the likelihood of legal challenges while omitting details on how the restrictions would be enforced against credentialed reporters on White House grounds.

Media outlets and press freedom advocacy groups reacted swiftly to the announcement, with CNN describing the action as an illegal assault on constitutionally protected press rights. Politico affirmed its intention to continue reporting on the administration while vigorously defending its First Amendment rights in court, whereas MS NOW declined to issue a comment.
