CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel has launched a scathing attack on the current administration and emerging political factions, accusing them of masking financial discrepancies under the guise of good governance.
The opposition leader specifically targeted government ministers for stalling the release of their property declarations. He claimed that the very individuals promoting governmental integrity are failing to uphold basic transparency standards.
Addressing the financial status of the Parliament's Speaker, Pokhrel emphasized that while upward economic mobility from a laborer to a business owner is commendable, the origins of alleged foreign wealth must be clarified. He demanded absolute transparency regarding the specific channels through which these funds entered the country and whether appropriate state taxes were paid.
Asserting his party's commitment to integrity, the UML leader stated that their members are fully prepared to face any rigorous financial scrutiny. He challenged the self-proclaimed "new" political forces to prove they are equally willing to undergo the same level of investigation.
Additionally, Pokhrel condemned the ongoing actions of the Karki Commission. He described the probe as a politically motivated weapon of vengeance aimed specifically at harassing UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, vowing that the party would fiercely resist such administrative targeting.
