Nepali Communist Party (NCP) Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' visited the residence of party Co-coordinator Madhav Kumar Nepal on Monday morning to hold high-level political discussions. The meeting took place at Nepal's private residence in Koteshwar, where both leaders held a brief dialogue regarding current internal party dynamics and provincial government arrangements.
A member of Coordinator Prachanda's secretariat clarified that there is no major conflict between the two top leaders. According to the secretariat member, the primary focus of the meeting was to deliberate on how the party should move forward regarding the formation and operation of provincial governments.
The meeting comes in the backdrop of internal dissatisfaction expressed by Madhav Kumar Nepal over recent power-sharing arrangements. Nepal is reportedly unhappy after Prachanda reached an agreement with the CPN (UML) on provincial government leadership without holding prior formal discussions within the party.
Madhav Kumar Nepal was reportedly favoring cooperation with the Nepali Congress rather than reaching a deal with the CPN (UML) at this stage. Despite his preference, an agreement was reached allocating the leadership of Koshi, Bagmati, and Lumbini provinces to the CPN (UML), Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces to the NCP, and Gandaki and Madhesh provinces to be formed with the support of other political parties.
The two leaders are expected to hold further consultations to streamline executive functions and manage internal alignment as the agreed provincial government framework is implemented across the regions.
