Munir Mengal Calls For UN Intervention Over Human Rights In Balochistan

GENEVA – Baloch Voice Association President Munir Mengal has raised severe concerns regarding the situation in Balochistan on the sidelines of the 63rd United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) session in Geneva. Addressing the international forum, Mengal alleged that ongoing military operations by Pakistani state forces are heavily impacting civilians, particularly women, children, and infants.

Speaking during the session, Mengal stated that the situation in Balochistan is deteriorating daily due to state-sponsored suppression and widespread enforced disappearances. He highlighted that the political conflict between the Baloch people and the Pakistani state stems from the community's demand to regain sovereignty over their land. According to Mengal, the state is attempting to dominate the region by force, asserting that military operations cannot resolve the long-standing conflict.

Mengal emphasized that women and children bear the brunt of military actions across the region. He noted that daily military operations result in innocent casualties, stating, "Whenever there is a military operation, we receive information that the children, that the women have been killed or they have got bullets in their bodies or their houses have been demolished and the dead bodies are beneath those dirt." He further asserted that Pakistani authorities will never independently act to protect Baloch lives.

Urging immediate global intervention, the Baloch leader called upon the United Nations, UN treaty bodies, special procedures, the European Union, and the broader international community to press Pakistan on its human rights record. He advocated for a structured dialogue between Baloch representatives and the Pakistani government through an international guarantor. Mengal concluded that unless international bodies and foreign nations actively push Pakistan, the safety and rights of the Baloch people cannot be safeguarded.
