A peaceful demonstration was organized by the Rashtriya Ekta Dal in Kathmandu on Monday to protest against the violent incident that occurred in Kaptanganj, Ward No. 3 of Dewanganj Rural Municipality in Sunsari district. Demonstrators gathered to demand an impartial investigation, strict action against those responsible, and justice for the victims. Organizers issued a strict 24-hour ultimatum to the government during the corner meeting following the rally.
Participants in the protest carried placards and banners to draw the government’s attention to the situation. Speakers highlighted that the Sunsari incident has raised serious questions regarding religious tolerance, citizen security, and the rule of law in the country. They emphasized that the state must act swiftly to uncover the facts and bring the culprits to justice without delay.
During the program, the organizers publicly outlined a set of major demands submitted to the government. They demanded that the deceased be declared martyrs, full medical treatment be provided to the injured, and strict laws be enacted to sentence extremists to death. Furthermore, they urged the immediate deportation of Rohingya and Bengali refugees, the cancellation of Muslim reservations, and the dissolution of the Muslim Commission.
The rally speakers stressed the need to form a high-level investigative committee for a fair probe into the incident and requested proper relief and compensation for the affected families. They stated that the state must enforce the law equally without partiality, warning that neglecting such incidents increases social insecurity and distrust across society.
Following the protest, the party issued a final 24-hour countdown for government action. They announced that if no concrete decisions or steps are taken within the specified timeframe, Rashtriya Ekta Dal Chairman Vinay Yadav will initiate an indefinite hunger strike starting tomorrow. Leaders warned that failure to address their concerns will lead to stronger nationwide protest programs.
