Kathmandu - The situation has become more tense after 21-year-old Rabindra Mehta, injured in the Dewanganj incident in Sunsari, passed away during treatment at TUI Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu. Relatives of the deceased, rights activists, and protesters have issued a stern warning that the body will not be removed from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) until the Home Minister himself arrives and the perpetrators are arrested within 24 hours.
Angry relatives at the hospital premises expressed strong objections to state indifference and gave a 24-hour ultimatum. They maintain their stance not to receive the mortal remains until the Home Minister visits the hospital and makes a clear commitment to an impartial investigation and legal action.
Leaders Visit Hospital to Meet Family
Meanwhile, considering the gravity of the incident, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Member of Parliament Lal Bikram Thapa and Rastriya Mukti Party Chairman Rajendra Mahato reached Teaching Hospital to meet the family and relatives of the deceased.
During the meeting, the two leaders expressed condolences to the grieving family and strongly demanded the government conduct a truthful investigation into the incident, immediately bring the guilty to justice, and address the legitimate demands of the victim's side.
With Rabindra's death, the death toll in the Sunsari incident has reached 4. Security arrangements have been tightened following increased tension at the hospital and the ongoing hunger strike by Vinay Yadav, Chairman of Rastriya Ekta Dal, at Maitighar in Kathmandu.
