A major wildfire has broken out in the forest area of Shivapuri Hills, situated above Budhanilkantha in the northern outskirts of Kathmandu. The fire, which started recently, is reported to be spreading rapidly across the dry terrain, sparking immediate concerns over regional safety and environmental damage.
Given the proximity of a Nepal Army camp to the site of the blaze, security measures have been significantly heightened. To prevent the flames from encroaching upon the military installation and nearby human settlements, a coordinated response team—comprising the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and local volunteers—has been deployed to the frontline.
The challenging topography, coupled with the prevailing dry seasonal conditions, has complicated firefighting efforts.
