The streets and temples of Nepal resonated with prayers today as the nation observed Ram Navami, commemorating the birth of Lord Ram. Believed to have been born in the Treta Yuga to King Dasharath and Queen Kausalya in Ayodhya, the deity is honored today as a symbol of the victory of righteousness over evil. The atmosphere across the country remained deeply spiritual, reflecting the cultural significance of the "Maryada Purushottam" in Nepali society.
Central to the celebrations is the historic Ram Janaki Temple in Janakpur, which has transformed into a massive pilgrimage hub. According to local reports, thousands of devotees from both Nepal and India have converged at the shrine to offer prayers. The temple complex is currently hosting vibrant cultural processions (Jhankis), traditional bhajans, and religious hymns, creating a festive environment that stretches across the border.
In the capital, significant crowds were seen at the Ram Temple in Battisputali and the shrines within the Pashupatinath area since early morning. Observers of the festival typically engage in fasting, ritual bathing in holy rivers or ponds, and the recitation of the Ramayana and Ram Gita. As this day also marks the conclusion of Chaitra Navratri, special worship of Navadurga is being performed alongside the tributes to Lord Ram, Sita, Lakshman, and Hanuman.
