General Dhiraj Seth, Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army, concluded an official visit to Nepal from 16 to 19 August 2026, aimed at expanding bilateral defence cooperation and strengthening military ties between the two neighboring nations.

Upon arriving in Kathmandu on 16 August, General Seth was received by senior officials of the Nepali Army and representatives from the Embassy of India. The official engagements commenced on 17 August with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Army Pavilion in Tundikhel to pay homage to fallen soldiers, followed by a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the Nepali Army Headquarters.

During his bilateral discussion with Nepali Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel, General Seth handed over vehicles and medical equipment to enhance Nepal's disaster preparedness and humanitarian response capabilities. Later that day, the Rt. Hon'ble President of Nepal, Ram Chandra Paudel, conferred the Honorary Rank of General of the Nepali Army upon General Seth in a traditional ceremony at Shital Niwas, followed by a courtesy call.

On 18 August, the Indian Army Chief visited the Nepali Army Command and Staff College at Shivapuri to interact with faculty and students, emphasizing academic collaboration between both armed forces. Subsequently, General Seth held a high-level courtesy meeting with the Rt. Hon'ble Prime Minister of Nepal to discuss the longstanding partnership and defence relations between the two countries.

The final leg of the visit on 19 August took General Seth to Pokhara, where he addressed Indian Army veterans, felicitated Veer Naris and gallantry awardees, and distributed mobility equipment. He also dedicated the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme Polyclinic at Kohalpur to enhance healthcare support for veterans in Nepal.

The visit helped strengthen the multifaceted partnership between India and Nepal while deepening cooperation across various domains of defence and security.
