Kathmandu. Prime Minister Balendra Sah (Balen) departed for the mountain district of Mustang today. Unnecessary controversy is being created in various circles regarding his visit to Mustang, which appears completely meaningless. As the Gaijatra festival approaches, various possibilities and speculations have begun regarding why the country's Prime Minister has gone to Mustang.

According to sources close to the Prime Minister, there are four main reasons behind his visit:

  • Enjoyment of Luxury Resorts: World-famous luxury resorts (such as Shinta Mani Mustang / Moksha) are in operation in Mustang. Since the Prime Minister is a lover of resorts, he may have gone there to take a short break from his busy schedule and enjoy the natural beauty.

  • Easy Access to Sovereign Territory: Mustang is an integral and sovereign territory of Nepal. As the Prime Minister of a sovereign nation, visiting any part of the country falls within his natural right and duty.

  • Monitoring Border Municipalities: Complaints have been received that the Chinese side has been distributing relief materials in some remote areas of Mustang's border municipalities—Lomanthang Rural Municipality and Lo-Ghekar Damodarkunda Rural Municipality—without prior information to the central government. The Prime Minister may have headed there to understand the ground reality and monitor these activities.

  • Inspection of Border Pillars: Another strong possibility is that the Prime Minister himself arrived for a direct inspection regarding concerns over Pillar No. 24 (and areas around Pillar No. 33) in the Nepal-China border area (near the Korala pass) and the missing/unclear border pillars.

Since the Prime Minister's visit is linked to the country's internal peace, border security, and tourism promotion, it appears necessary to focus on real achievements rather than raising unnecessary political controversy.
