In a major digital upgrade aimed at streamlining home entertainment services, Nepal Telecom has launched a Virtual Set-Top Box feature for its NTTV platform, eliminating the requirement for physical hardware on Android Smart TVs. Announced on Ashwin 15, 2083 by spokesperson Dr. Kamal Lamichhane, the software-driven transition allows subscribers to access live television programming directly through an application.

The technological shift offers immediate financial and convenience benefits for consumers adopting the state-owned telecom provider's FTTH service. Users can activate the television service by installing the 'Smart NTTV' application directly from the Google Play Store onto their Android-based television sets. To incentivize adoption, Nepal Telecom is granting an upfront discount of Rs 1,000 for customers who opt for new packages paired with the Virtual Set-Top Box option.

Delivered over a single fiber-optic line under the NT Fiber banner, the service bundles high-speed internet, landline telephone, and television into a unified household connection. The operator has structured multiple subscription tiers for the virtual setup, with long-term annual and two-year packages providing added value through bundled mobile data allowances.

Looking ahead, Nepal Telecom plans to extend Virtual Set-Top Box compatibility across all remaining smart television platforms, broadening digital convenience and reducing hardware dependence for households nationwide.
