Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa is scheduled to participate in the inaugural session of the Rastriya Swatantra Party's (RSP) first-ever national general convention, signaling a significant moment of cross-party engagement in the country's political landscape.
The information was confirmed by Thapa’s personal secretary, Shankar Kuinkel, who stated that the Congress chief is traveling to Chitwan today specifically to witness the opening ceremony of the convention.
Organizers from the RSP secretariat, including member Deepak Bohara, also validated the development, noting that invitations had been extended to top-tier leaders from across the political spectrum to mark this historic institutional milestone.
Extending his formal well-wishes to the RSP and its president, Rabi Lamichhane, earlier this morning, Thapa commended the young party's rapid trajectory. He noted that within a remarkably short period since its inception, the RSP has secured substantial public backing and firmly anchored itself as a formidable force in national politics.
In his message, Thapa characterized the convention as a strategic window for the party to mature ideologically and organizationally. He expressed hope that the gathering would infuse the party with the vision needed to uphold democratic values, protect constitutional citizen rights, and build a highly accountable political structure.
The event is drawing an array of high-profile political figures to Chitwan. Notable attendees include CPN-UML leader Pradip Gyawali, CPN leader Barsaman Pun, and RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden.
Additionally, Prime Minister Balen Shah, who also serves as a senior leader of the RSP, has already left for the venue to take part in the inaugural proceedings, setting the stage for a heavily watched political assembly.
