The voting process to elect the central committee members of the Rastriya Swatantra Party commenced at midnight and continues into Thursday morning in Chitwan. According to the Election Commission, the ballot casting is scheduled to conclude by noon today.
The ongoing electoral process is being conducted utilizing electronic voting machines at the Industrial Association hall. Chief of the Election Commission, Bhuwan KC, stated that 2,100 general convention delegates had successfully cast their votes by eight o'clock this morning. Election authorities estimate that a total of 3,800 to 3,900 delegates will participate in the voting process.
Arrangements have been established for the overseas representatives of the party to cast their ballots from their respective locations utilizing a specialized mobile application. Meanwhile, Rabi Lamichhane has already been elected unopposed to the position of party Chairman. Preparations are underway to conduct elections for office bearers immediately following the completion of the central committee selection.
The statutory framework of the Rastriya Swatantra Party mandates that general convention delegates select office bearers only after the positions of Chairman and central committee members are finalized. The party statute provides for a 151-member central committee and 19 office bearers, where 99 central committee members are elected through internal voting while the remaining 51 members are nominated by the Chairman.
The inaugural session of the first general convention of the party commenced amid enthusiastic circumstances on Sunday in Bharatpur. However, the closed sessions faced structural disarray due to delays in finalizing the list of convention delegates, leading to an extension of the convention which was originally scheduled to conclude on Tuesday. The final outcomes of the ongoing voting session are expected to shape the upcoming leadership structure of the organization.
