The year's most dominant horror phenomenon is officially transitioning from the big screen to living rooms. Director Curry Barker’s breakout theatrical hit, Obsession, is scheduled to arrive on digital home platforms on Tuesday, June 30, following an explosive run in cinemas worldwide.
The dark supernatural thriller has taken the global box office by storm, raking in an impressive $334 million globally so far. Domestically, the film has managed to scare up a staggering $217 million in the United States, maintaining an unusually powerful momentum driven by exceptional word-of-mouth recommendations from audiences.
While the movie's theatrical earnings show no signs of stopping, the immediate shift to digital distribution ensures fans can experience the terror at home. The story centers on a desperate romantic who shatters a mystical "One Wish Willow" to win over his crush, only to face horrifying, dark consequences. The project stars Inde Navarrette of Superman & Lois fame alongside Teen Wolf alumnus Michael Johnston.
Given this monumental financial victory, a sequel seems almost certain to follow. Barker has already conceptualized ideas for a second chapter, though he does not plan to jump straight into production.
Instead, the filmmaker is focusing his energy on completing post-production for his next wrapped feature, Anything But Ghosts. Beyond that, Barker is expanding his footprint in the genre by developing a completely new, original horror venture under Blumhouse and Universal, alongside an attachment to direct the next iteration of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise.
