Students at the Lowo Niphug Namdrol Norbuling Monastery School in Mustang now have access to upgraded residential facilities. A newly built two-story hostel building was officially opened in Lomanthang Rural Municipality-1 on June 15, 2026 (Asar 1, 2083 BS).
Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, and Lomanthang Rural Municipality Chairman, Tashi Nharbu Gurung, jointly inaugurated the facility. According to an official statement from the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, the project aims to enrich the living and educational conditions of the local student population.
The newly constructed infrastructure features four structural blocks alongside essential supporting amenities. Executed directly through the Lomanthang Rural Municipality, the initiative was developed under the High Impact Community Development Project framework, utilizing financial backing from the Government of India.
The recipient monastery school plays a dual role in the remote region. Beyond its foundational mission to preserve indigenous cultural heritage and transmit Buddhist teachings, the academy administers a regular educational curriculum aligned with the official guidelines of the Government of Nepal.
During the event, Ambassador Srivastava reiterated New Delhi's long-term commitment to collaborating on mutual prosperity and socio-economic advancement alongside the citizens and leadership of Nepal. In response, local stakeholders and school administrators expressed gratitude for the development support, noting that the modern quarters would substantially elevate the institution's overall learning atmosphere.
This completion marks a wider footprint of cross-border development cooperation. To date, India has pushed forward approximately 600 similar grassroots community projects spanning 74 districts across all seven provinces of Nepal.
The regional breakdown reveals a heavy focus on the Gandaki Province, which hosts 63 of these initiatives, including 18 dedicated specifically to Mustang district. This structural support is accompanied by logistical aid; previous distributions have deployed 126 ambulances and 52 school buses across Gandaki's health and education networks, with Mustang receiving 11 and 6 units respectively.
Moving forward, the collaborative venture highlights the enduring bilateral relationship between the two neighboring countries. The consistent execution of these localized high-impact projects reflects a systematic approach to fulfilling regional infrastructural priorities and boosting Nepal's domestic national development goals.
