In a significant boost to grassroots infrastructure, the Government of India has committed a grant of 473 million Nepali Rupees to launch seven High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) across several provinces in Nepal. The formal agreement was finalized through a Memorandum of Understanding signed on Thursday between the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, and respective local implementing agencies.
These newly sanctioned initiatives target critical gaps in rural storage and educational facilities. According to the official press release, the plan includes the establishment of two cold storage facilities in Nawalpur and Terhathum to support the agricultural supply chain. Additionally, substantial funds are allocated for constructing school buildings and hostels in Mustang, Kailali, Banke, and Dolpa, alongside a dedicated maternity center in Rautahat.

The execution of these projects will be handled directly through local government bodies, ensuring that the benefits reach the community level efficiently. This latest batch of projects adds to a long-standing developmental partnership that began in 2003. Since then, India has initiated 598 community projects in Nepal, spanning all seven provinces.
Out of the total projects initiated over the last two decades, 506 have already reached completion, covering essential sectors like water supply, sanitation, and connectivity. The remaining projects are currently in various stages of implementation.
This ongoing collaboration underscores India's commitment to supporting Nepal's national efforts toward sustainable growth and infrastructure strengthening. As a close neighbor, India's investment in these priority sectors reflects a shared vision for regional prosperity and strengthened bilateral ties.
