Access to medical treatments in the remote terrains of Karnali Province is poised for a significant transformation following the foundational launch of a new healthcare facility in Humla. On June 10, 2026, the official cornerstone was laid for the upcoming India-Nepal Friendship Hospital building, situated in Chankheli Rural Municipality-2. This development marks a critical shift toward establishing dependable local medical infrastructure for the regional population.

Financed through a financial grant of approximately NPR 148 million from the Government of India, the institutional layout is being executed directly under the local administrative oversight of the Chankheli Rural Municipality. Expressing structural optimism during the launch, the Chairman of the Chankheli Rural Municipality alongside regional community leaders emphasized that the finished facility would bridge existing gaps in healthcare accessibility.

The strategic value of this cross-border development was further reinforced by the Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, who conveyed his celebratory wishes to the community via a video broadcast. He reiterated India's persistent commitment to cooperating alongside Nepali state bodies to nurture collaborative socio-economic progress. This medical complex signifies the third High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) steered by India inside Humla, following previous structural grants allocated for educational centers at Shree Saraswati Secondary School in Sarkegad and Shree Mahadev Higher Secondary School in Chankheli-Darma.

Beyond structural installations, the bilateral partnership had previously facilitated an academic study excursion to India in July 2024 for a ten-member delegation comprising local representatives from Simkot, Sarkegad, and Chankheli. As these structural implementations progress, the upcoming hospital stands as a testament to continuing neighboring alliances designed to supplement Nepal's public resource development goals in crucial sectors.
