In a targeted operation against cross-border narcotics trafficking, the Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal apprehended two individuals at the Birgunj Customs main gate on May 9. The arrests were made possible by the keen senses of a specialized drug detection K9 deployed with the Border Security Gulm.

The suspects, identified as 20-year-old Sagar Ghimire and 23-year-old Puja Jimba from Hetauda, Makwanpur, were entering Nepal from India. They were traveling in a passenger auto-rickshaw when the K9 unit signaled a positive alert, prompting a thorough search by the officers on duty.

During the inspection, security personnel recovered 5 grams of a substance resembling brown sugar and 0.34 milligrams of a white powder suspected to be heroin. The specialized trade dog played a pivotal role in identifying the hidden contraband among the cross-border traffic.

According to APF Deputy Superintendent and Assistant Spokesperson Shailendra Thapa, the duo has been handed over to the Nepal Police for formal legal proceedings. The seized substances have also been submitted as evidence to support the ongoing investigation.

This incident underscores the increasing reliance on canine units to bolster security at high-traffic border points. Authorities remain vigilant as they continue to monitor transit routes for illegal drug movements.
