In a sharp directive to the government, Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has demanded the immediate public disclosure and full implementation of the inquiry commission's findings regarding the Gen-Z movement. Speaking at the ongoing Central Working Committee meeting in Sanepa, Thapa emphasized that the report, led by Gauri Bahadur Karki, should have been made public long ago.
The demand centers on the violent events of September 8 and 9, 2025 (Bhadra 23 and 24, 2082), which Thapa characterized as a period of extreme state overreach followed by significant violence. According to Thapa, the uprising resulted in severe human rights abuses, including the destruction of both private and public property, as well as loss of life. He insisted that the true facts must be unearthed to ensure justice for the victims.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, the Congress leader warned that failing to hold perpetrators accountable—both those who misused state power and those who incited violence—would set a dangerous precedent. He asserted that if legal consequences are not enforced now, the country remains at risk of repeating such tragic cycles of unrest.
Thapa’s stance signals a high-priority agenda for the party, as he urged the current administration and any succeeding government to prioritize the investigation’s recommendations. The focus remains on transitioning from investigation to active legal prosecution to uphold the rule of law.
