A domestic altercation took a deadly turn in the capital city last night, resulting in the murder of a young man. The violent incident occurred at Kharibot in Chandragiri Municipality-3, Thankot, inside Kathmandu district.
According to authorities from the District Police Range Kathmandu, the casualty has been identified as Zakir Mansuri, aged between 20 to 25 years. The victim originally hailed from Gaushala Municipality-5 in Mahottari district.
The law enforcement officials have successfully apprehended the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Sami Ahmed. Ahmed, who is also a resident of Mahottari, had been residing at the Kharibot locality and is related to the victim as his brother-in-law.
The conflict erupted around 9:15 PM over a household disagreement. During the heated argument, Ahmed reportedly picked up a vegetable-cutting knife and assaulted Mansuri, inflicting severe bodily harm.
Following the assault, the critically injured youth was rushed to the Med Point Hospital located in Satungal for emergency medical intervention. However, attending physicians declared him dead at approximately 9:30 PM.
Investigating officers managed to detain the accused directly from the scene. Additionally, the weapon utilized in the commission of the crime has been retrieved and taken into police custody.
Following the initial legal procedures and the compilation of the inquest report, the deceased's body was transferred to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The local police administration has confirmed that comprehensive investigations are underway to uncover the deeper underlying motives behind this domestic tragedy.
