India Announces 'Operation Sindoor' in Response to Pahalgam

NEW DELHI – The Indian Ministry of Defence announced on Wednesday via its official X.com account that India has launched "#OperationSindoor," described as a "precise and restrained response" to the "barbaric #PahalgamTerrorAttack." The ministry stated the attack in Indian-administered Kashmir claimed 26 lives, "including one Nepali citizen."

According to the social media post, Indian forces carried out "focused strikes" on "nine #terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir." The stated aim of these strikes was "targeting the roots of cross-border terror planning."

The Ministry of Defence emphasized the nature of the operation, stating, "Importantly, no Pakistani military facilities were hit, reflecting India’s calibrated and non-escalatory approach."

The statement further added that "This operation underscores India’s resolve to hold perpetrators accountable while avoiding unnecessary provocation."

The Ministry concluded by informing that "A detailed briefing on the operation will follow later today." The post also included a link to a Press Information Bureau (PIB) press release for further details.
