EU’s Veronique Lorenzo Leads Historic Mission to Nepal, Meeting PM Oli and FM Rana Deuba

Kathmandu, Nepal – In an extraordinary show of solidarity and strategic intent, twenty-one Ambassadors and Representatives from European Union (EU) member states touched down in Kathmandu this week for the 2025 EU Heads of Mission (HoMs) Mission—a high-level diplomatic engagement that reaffirms Europe’s enduring partnership with Nepal.

The delegation was led by the EU Ambassador to Nepal, Her Excellency Veronique Lorenzo, who steered a series of important dialogues aimed at deepening political, economic, and developmental cooperation between the EU and Nepal. The mission included extensive meetings with the Right Honourable Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba.

During the meeting with Prime Minister Oli, the ambassadors engaged in a frank and fruitful conversation focused on Nepal’s governance agenda, its role in regional cooperation, and the growing opportunities for EU-Nepal collaboration. The atmosphere was described by participants as “constructive, respectful, and forward-looking.”

Prime Minister Oli welcomed the delegation, acknowledging the EU’s longstanding commitment to Nepal’s democratic journey and socio-economic transformation. He emphasized the importance of international partnerships in addressing Nepal’s development aspirations, particularly in the context of climate change, infrastructure, and inclusive growth.

Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, in her interaction with the delegation, highlighted Nepal’s appreciation for the EU’s consistent engagement—both in crisis and in stability. She praised the EU’s role in supporting Nepal’s institutional reforms, post-disaster recovery efforts, and green development ambitions.

Ambassador Veronique Lorenzo echoed these sentiments, stating:

“Nepal matters deeply to Europe—not only as a development partner but as a friend and ally. This visit is about reaffirming our commitment, listening to Nepal’s priorities, and building a partnership that respects both our values and our shared future.”

The 2025 HoMs Mission marks a historic milestone—not only for the record number of participating diplomats, but also for the depth of political will displayed. The visit highlights Europe’s unified diplomatic front, expressed through “Team Europe,” and its long-term vision for working with Nepal on sustainable development, democratic resilience, and regional peace.

In a time when global alliances are being reshaped, this gathering in Kathmandu stands as a powerful reminder of the quiet strength of diplomacy: relationships rooted in trust, history, and common purpose.
