The Embassy of India in Kathmandu marked India’s 79th Independence Day on 15 August 2025 with a flag-hoisting ceremony, cultural performances, and community outreach initiatives attended by members of the Indian community, friends of India in Nepal, and Embassy officials.

The celebrations began with the hoisting of the national flag by the Ambassador of India to Nepal, followed by a broadcast of Indian President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the nation on the eve of Independence Day. In her remarks, President Murmu reflected on India’s progress over the past 78 years, highlighting achievements in governance, economic growth, and social development.

As part of the commemorations, the Ambassador honoured widows and next of kin of deceased personnel from the Indian Armed Forces, distributing Army Group Insurance Fund (AGIF) cheques worth a total of NPR 6.4 crore. The Embassy also announced a book grant for 39 educational institutions and libraries in 21 districts across seven provinces of Nepal, with the stated aim of improving access to learning resources, particularly for students in remote regions.

The event concluded with cultural performances featuring patriotic songs presented by students from the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center of the Embassy and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kathmandu, underscoring the shared cultural and people-to-people connections between India and Nepal. The Embassy described the celebration as a reaffirmation of historical ties and mutual goodwill between the two countries.
